Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – September 2025
Recent Events
Birthday Bash – Social Directors Simone Gordon and Amy Holdaway arranged a party for us at the Sundance II pool to celebrate Waterford Yacht Club’s 26th birthday and to enjoy an outdoor movie. Pizza, salads and lavish cupcakes were provided by WYC. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson (2008 movie Fool’s Gold) also attended but didn’t eat much.

Education Bridges and Locks – Rear Commodore Jeff Mountain drew from his personal experience and passed along many tips about our inland waterways. More than a dozen boaters heard about the experience of being in a lock as it fills or empties and passage under many different types of bridges.

WYC Website and Email – Tech Director Evan Bauman initiated and completed the migration of the WYC website and email to a new company, Purelymail which operates a server network that process our content faster than previously available.

On The Horizon
Happy Hour October 18, 6:00 – 9:00pm – Tony and Karen Townsend have volunteered to host another Happy Hour for WYC in their residence at 922 Plantation St. League City. Costumes are welcomed at this BYOB party and plan to bring a dish to share.

Dinghy Run – Saturday October 25 – Fleet Captain Elfie Boersma has reserved the pavilion at Walter Hall Parik in League City for WYC. Let’s put our little boats into the water and power upstream Clear Creek to the park for lunch. The Evite has been mailed and your response is requested.

Chili Cookoff – Saturday November 8, 5:00-8:00pm – You’ll need an appetite to properly enjoy this delicious event as several members bring their favorite homemade chili, cornbread or other side dishes for members to sample.

Moody Gardens – Saturday & Sunday November 28 & 29 – The hotel is ready for the holidays and so is WYC. Lets cruise by boat or land yacht to Offatts Bayou and spend at least one night. Fleet Captain Elfie Boersma will work to reserve a block of slips so you can make individual slip arrangements by contacting marina reservations at 409 6831299. Let’s plan on dining at the hotel buffet restaurant on Saturday night. Members may also choose to anchor in the bayou but must provide their own dinghy transportation. Poor weather conditions will require an event postponement.

Holiday Deserts – Saturday December 6, 5:00-8:00pm – Members shall gather at Pavilion B (or the Ice House) for some sweet treats and beverages. Try to bring a homemade or store bought item to share. The decorated boats in the marina make this a pretty evening.

Volunteers: There are always volunteer opportunities at WYC. Either Social Director Amy Holdaway (amyjo67@sbcglobal.net) or Simone Gordon (spg33333@gmail.com) will gladly get you started.
