December 2022

Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – December 2022

Recent Events

Holiday Deserts – More than two dozen members attended and acknowledged Liz Eisemann’s desert and Daniel Knierien’s beverage as gift card winners.  Thanks to member Elfie Boresma who arranged the last WYC gathering of the year.  Do you see the mysterious hand?  Question: guess who it belongs to.

Clear Lake Christmas Boat Parade – The 2022 parade was well attended with better than 60 boats registered and thousands of onlookers.  Several boats from WHM were in the event: The Gemin Dreams won a first place award, second place awards were sweet for Vice Commodore Daven Voorhies’ De Bonte Koe and Shannon Edmonson’s Waltzing Matilda, and the Jewels of the Sea also looked great.

On the Horizon

Annual Business Meeting Saturday 10:00am January 14 at the Sundance Grill II – We’ll review 2022 activities and vote for the members who will lead WYC in 2023 (see officer slate below).  Please attend; the restaurant will serve coffee, lox and bagels and it’s the right time to voice your 2023 event ideas.  You’ve noticed inflation in your household expenses and the same is true for club activities.  An annual dues increase of $25, from $125 to $150 will be on the ballot for your approval.  It will be the first membership fee increase in many years.

Annual Commodore’s Ball Saturday January 14 6:00pm – 10:00 at the South Shore Opus Bistro and Steakhouse – Anchors Aweigh!  Along with the nice setting, our boating friends, three course meal, cash bar and DJ music, WYC will recognize its past Commodores.  Online tickets are $65 each for WYC members and $75 each for guests.  The tickets are available through Eventbrite url: Tickets.  Please RSVP by 5:00pm Thursday January 12.  After five attire is requested.

Marine Insurance Saturday 21, 10:00am-11:00 at Sundance Grill II.  Local marine insurance agent Dennis Onstott will speak to the membership about boat insurance, especially the fine print.  The more we know about this mandatory expense the better.  Our new Rear Commodore (education) volunteer Howard Eisemann will be on hand to hear your suggestions on future education events.

Volunteers – The 2023 program is now being assembled.  You can support the program by volunteering to help with one or more event and become a Waterford Yachtie (hat included). Our organization meeting will be held following the Annual Business on Saturday January 14th, about 11:00am.  Many of you have already signed up and a few more are still needed.  Contact Vice Commodore Daven Voorhies (vicecommodore@waterfordyc.com) to participate and plan to attend, together we make it 2023 the best!
