Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – April 2024

Recent Events

HYC Cruise – Eight members arrived by yacht and another seven by land yacht for overnight dockage and/or a delicious group meal at the Houston Yacht Club.  It was a windy day so sailboats make very good time.

Little Yacht Sales Free Boat Show – Your yacht club was well represented among many local yacht sales and service companies.  We looked good with a tent and table as dozens of visitors passed by and were introduced to the many benefits of WYC and WHM.

Gumbo Cookoff – Four delicious gumbos and assorted sides dishes satisfied the appetites of more the twenty members.  WYC Secretary Chet Jachimiec’s gumbo was voted number one and awarded an authentic gumbo stir paddle and towel.  Many thanks to host WYC Treasurer Vickie Voorhies for making sure it was a successful event.

New Member – John Lehman and Betsy Tatarsky onboard s/v Texas Healer (pier 16, slip 21) signed up at our LYS free boat show table.  Shout out “Ahoy” as you pass by their boat.

On The Horizon

Bloody Mary Sunday May 5th 9:00am – 11:00 – Beverage preparations are well underway for this annual eye opener.  It’s a perfect way to start a lazy Sunday.  Stop by for a customize beverage, snacks and some chit-chat with other members.  Bring a side dish to share if you can.

Redfish Island Anchorage and Picnic Saturday May 18th -19th – weather permitting we’ll head out to Redfish, drop anchor and use member dinghies to get ashore for a BBQ picnic and bonfire.  Plan on bringing beach chairs and a side dish/desert to help make it a memorable event and if you have a dingy, bring that too.

Education Seminar – Save the date, Saturday June 8th 11:00 am at Sundance Grill, for another informative event presented by Rear Commodore Bill Adams.

Offatts Bayou/Moody Gardens Sat-Sun June 22-23 Other dates to save are Saturday-Sunday June 22-23.  Weather permitting we’ll cruise down the HSC and ICW to Moody Gardens for an overnight stay at their docks.  Reservations are limited so call 409 6834000 to reserve your slip.  A yachtie volunteer is needed to serve onboard beverages and we’ll also dine at the hotel restaurant Saturday night.  As always land yachts are welcomed too.

Membership: Our busy 2024 agenda requires member support.  If not already done, please renew your membership and spread the word along the docks about the advantages of WYC membership.
