Educational is an important part of the Yachting Experience. Waterford Yacht Club gives members a chance to learn more about the maintenance and operation of their investment. Some of the presentations will help the member to be a better Yachtsman and feel more secure when operating his or her boat.

Commodores Message

As I write the final Commodores message of 2016 I would like to start out mentioning the highlights of 2016. At the first Board meeting we identified that WYC was in change, and some modifications needed to happen. Needless to say the board outlined goals and with their hard work the following was accomplished.

  • Held the most successful charity regatta to date.
  • Increased overall membership.
  • Increased new membership (largest increase since 2010).
  • Incorporated a yearlong sailing regatta’s series.
  • Increased attendance at happy hours, and fleet / social events.
  • WYC members captured numerous trophy’s in multiple classes at the 2016 Harvest Moon Regatta.
  • Increased the palm tree population on Redfish Island from 1 to 2.
  • Revived the Waterford Yacht club Facebook page
  • Left the club in a better financial position than received.

I am very proud of the 2016 board and all we overcame. I am confident that we reversed the downward trajectory and the future is bright for WYC. We already have members that have volunteered for next year’s board, if you are interested please let Elfie Boersma (Nominating committee) or me know your intentions

Please join us for the annual Boat decoration / Dessert, drink contest on Dec 9th. This is a fun event where members stroll the docks checking out the boats decorated for Christmas then enjoy some desserts and festive drinks. Don’t forget the Kemah boat parade on the 10th.

The annual Commodores Ball will be on January 21st, we decided to hold it close to home this year supporting the Sundance Grill. The event will be held in the large event room, should we get a larger than expected turnout we have access to the dining room as well. Invites will be sent out in the next few weeks.

Finally, I want to send out a big thank you to all who volunteered, donated and took part in the Waterford Yacht Club Charity Regatta. The 2016 event was the most successful to date and we could not have got there without our dedicated committee members, and participation from our members. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Being this is my final Commodores message I want to thank all the board members who stepped up and helped make this a successful fun year. To all the members, I am truly honored to have served as Waterford Yacht Clubs Commodore for 2016

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all !!!!
