January Events

Happy Hour Friday Jan. 1 2021 – About 20 members began the new year in the Icehouse with an eye opening Bloody Mary, other beverages and snacks.  Members generally expressed enthusiasm for the new year and a positive health, wealth, and boating outlook.

Annual Business Meeting Jan. 16th – Members signed-in at the Sundance Grill II to nominate and elect the 2021 board of directors.  The new board consists of:

  • Commodore Daven Voorhies
  • Vice Commodore Laurie Jachimiec
  • Rear Commodore Daniel Knierien
  • Fleet Captain Jody Wyers
  • Treasurer Vickie Voorhies
  • Secretary Chet Jachimiec
  • Social Director Elfie Boersma
  • Director, Tech Evan Bauman

The meeting included a recap of the 12 Friday happy hours, 10 social events, three education and three fleet events of 2020.  Elfie Boersma and Daniel Knierien spoke about plans for the 2021 social and education program.  Both asked for suggestions regarding desired 2021 events and solicited volunteers.  From the floor, more boat raft-up activities and party variations were suggested.  In between speeches members helped themselves to coffee, lox, and bagels from Sundance Grill II.

Commodore’s Ball Jan. 16th – Later in the evening members and guests dined and danced at the 3rd floor Boardwalk Aquarium restaurant.  The restaurant laid down the 12×12 dance floor, the DJ the tunes and the members a Conga line and Stroll that wouldn’t stop.  Outgoing 2020 Social Director Monique Henson created fantastic table center pieces that complimented the Fanta-Sea party theme and were also gifts for members to take home.

Logo Shirt Orders – Almost 30 polo shirts were ordered by members.  As soon as the WYC logo is embroidered on (mid February) distribution will be made.

On The Horizon

Bloody Mary Sunday Feb. 7th – Join with WHM boaters/home owners for a Bloody Mary Sunday beverage and a marina mingle.  Stop by Pavilion B between 10:00 am and noon for a Bloody Mary with all the trimmings (including bacon while supplies last).  Corvid-19 sensitives are still in effect so please be aware of social distancing and face mask use.  In the event of bad weather we’ll move to the Ice House.

Reciprocal Cards – 2021 paid-up members should receive their Yachting Club of America ‘repic’ cards in the mail soon.  Many marinas provide cruisers with courtesy dockage; other benefits may include shoreside marina business discounts.

Happy Hour Friday Mar. 12th – Stop by Pavilion B around 6:30pm and enjoy the company of other members, while maintaining an appropriate social distance.  For 2021 the regular Happy Hour date will be the second Friday of each month.

More on the Way – Additional activities are on the way as the new Board of Directors makes plans for 2021.

2021 Volunteers – Boost your WYC participation to the next level.  Your racing, social planning, technical or other boating skills and interests are sure to benefit the general membership. Volunteer to host a club event.  Please contact a 2021 board member or send an email to commodore@waterfordyc.com to volunteer.
