Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – November 2025
Recent Events
Chili Cookoff – Some like it hot and others with beans. There was plenty of chili to choose from at our annual chili cookoff. Attendees voted for their favorites and WYC aprons were won by Steve Nolin (1st) Vickie Voorhies (2nd) and David Hudson (3rd).

Moody Gardens – Once again the weather conspired against us and Fleet Captain Elfie Boersma advised against the water portion of our event. The bad weather made the voyage to Galveston difficult and the docks unsafe. The onshore portion of the weekend continued as planned and included dinner on the seawall and the attractions at Moody Gardens. The indoor Ice Land attraction kept ice sculptures frozen so it was definitely COLD inside and at night the many light displays were very pretty. Thank you Elfie for keeping the event on track!

On The Horizon
Holiday Cocktail Contest and Celebration – Saturday December 6, 5:00-8:00pm – Members will gather at Pavilion B (or the Ice House) for some seasonal beverages and sweet treats. Try to bring a homemade or store bought item to share. Awards will be given to our favorite beverage!

Commodore’s Ball – Saturday January 17, 2026 – Early next year we’ll celebrate another year with Waterford Yacht Club. The theme will be boots and bling, and will include a choice of entrées plus dancing at the Sundance Grill II. Eventbrite tickets will go on sale soon so save the date.

Volunteers: There are always volunteer opportunities at WYC. Either Social Director Amy Holdaway (amyjo67@sbcglobal.net) or Simone Gordon (spg33333@gmail.com) will gladly get you started.
