Clear Lake Dinghy Run – WYC well-wishers gathered and gave our little flotilla of 8 dinghies a fond farewell as we set off into the unknown waters of Clear Lake.

For a change the Lake, known for choppy waters, was calm, so it was an easy run across to Taylor Lake.  Some of the dinghies had the right stuff and enjoyed a libation while underway, others went fast and got up on a plane, or both.  Either way we avoided the channel cross traffic.

All went well except for the dinghy with David Hudson and Daniel Knierien onboard.  A fishing line snag fouled the propeller and required emergency fishing by David to clear it.  Lucky for him a passing Coast Guard boat was too late to look at his catch or ask for a fishing license.

Everyone else traveled deep into Taylor Lake and we all eventually landed at Sammy G’s for our party.

Several land yachts also joined-in so there was lots of chit-chat and good food and beverages.  Someone even had seconds on deep-fried pickles.

Thank you Fleet Captain Amy Holdaway for organizing the very successful event and to Daniel for the drone images.

WYC: T-Bone Tom’s Party – Chet and Laurie Jachimiec hosted our club party at T-Bone Tom’s where 26 members and guests enjoyed good food and tunes.

Board Meeting – The WYC Board met at the Sundance Grill.  Commodore Jeff Mountain conducted the meeting as your officers discussed both the past and future club activities.  Feel free to attend the 2nd Saturday of the month club meetings.

On The Horizon

HYC Overnight Cruise Saturday May 23rd-25th – We should arrive on Saturday May 23 and can stay until the 25th.  The combination of a cruise along the ship channel and use of the HYC facilities makes for a great event.  Let’s plan at dining at the HYC club on Saturday where WYC will start the evening by purchasing appetizers.  Respond to the Evite and also send your insurance declaration page and boat specs to Fleet Captain Amy at ‘amyjo67@sbcglobal.net’ so that you can be assigned a HYC slip.  Land yachts are also invited!

WYC & WHM: Galveston Bay Education June 13th – Rear Commodore Steve Nolin has arranged for Phillip Kropf, the Recreational Boater Guy (author) to speak to us in the Sundance Members Room.  Along with general discussion about Galveston Bay, Philip is expected to talk about favorite bay anchorages.  Please respond to the upcoming Evite.

Moody Gardens Overnight Event Saturday June 27th – 28th – Cruise by sea or by land to Moody Gardens for a great weekend club event.  Fleet Captain Amy has arranged a flat $70 dock fee for boaters who sign up through the Hotel (the Dockwa.com website is another source of dock reservations).  Organized events in the pyramid attractions or nearby in Galveston are to be determined.

WYC Birthday Party Saturday September 26 – This year our 27-year-old club will have an Oktoberfest theme with grilled brats and other traditional German foods.  Bring your favorite beer to help celebrate the event and a few dollars (cash) for a 50/50 drawing.  Half of the proceeds will go to a local charity.
Singo Bingo Party – Hosts Mike and Tina Pantoja will play the tune and you’ll mark the Bingo like card.  Save the eventual date for an entertaining evening with WYC members.
Volunteers: There are always volunteer opportunities at WYC.  Contact Vice Commodore Daven Voorhies at email vicecommodore@waterfordyc.com for more information.
Note: WYC June Board Meeting: Rescheduled to the first Saturday June 6th 9:30am at Sundance Grill II.
