Recent Events
Trivia Pursuit – Elfie Boersma and Bill Adams hosted a challenging boating Q&A contest which was attended by 18 members. It was won by Commodore Jeff’s dream team which included Gaye Mountain, Tony and Karen Townsend who all received the new WYC cap as a prize.

Boat Insurance – Rear Commodore Steve Nolin hosted a seminar on boating insurance by League City broker Kevin E. Severance. He mentioned that our boat insurance value should be for Actual Cash Value, not the purchase price. Sorry members; the ocean is a harsh environment which makes boats a depreciating asset. Kevin also mentioned the need to keep important boat documents onshore, not on the boat and to keep receipts of all our maintenance expenses.

Wine and Cheese New Member Party – Once again Yachtsman of the Year Tina Pantoja and past commodore Mike Pantoja hosted this delicious event, which just happens to be the biggest little charcuterie buffet table in Texas. Many of us made the huge spread our dinner and paired the delicacies with the wine Mike brought for the tasting contest and the member donations. One of the secrets of the event is to place everything on two layers of butcher paper. At the close of the event and after the members have secured late-night snacks the paper is just rolled up, and the tables are left neat and clean – EZ!

Board Meeting – The WYC Board met at the Sundance Grill. Commodore Jeff Mountain conducted the meeting as officers discussed both the past and future club activities. Feel free to attend the 2nd Saturday of the month club meetings.

On The Horizon
Dock Hop – Saturday Apr 11, 5:00pm – Long time member Daniel Knierien will organize this enjoyable event as we move about WHM and visit a few yachts. If you missed the previous Hops a few members will volunteer to host a +/- 30 minute membership visit on their boat or boat dock. Email Daniel at daniel@optimamarine.net if you’d like to volunteer as a boat host. An evite will be sent out in April, please respond so the timing of your visit can be arranged.

Dinghy Run – Saturday April 25 – Fleet Captain Amy Holdaway is organizing a dinghy adventure to nearby Taylor Lake for us. We’ll meet in front of Pavillion B/Ice House in our dinghies and cross Clear Lake to enter Taylor Lake (access is just past Clear Lake Marine Center). Then we’ll cruise the lake until around 1pm and tie up at Boondoggles for lunch and later return to WHM. Watch for the evite in your inbox for all the details!

T-Bone Tom’s Party Saturday – May 2nd – Chet and Laurie Jachimiec will host our party at T-Bone Tom’s. We’ll gather at the restaurant and the club will purchase appetizers for the members. Please respond to the forthcoming evite so Chet and Laurie can reserve enough seating for us. Also – late arrivals sit closest to the speakers.

HYC Overnight Cruise Saturday May 23rd -25th – Fleet Captain Amy Holdaway has contacted Houston Yacht Club to arrange slips for 8-10 boats over the Memorial Day weekend. We should arrive on Saturday May 23 and can stay until the 25th. The combination of a cruise along the ship channel and use of the HYC facilities makes for a great event. Respond to the Evite so Amy will know how many to plan for the member purchased dinner. Boaters should expect to supply Harbormaster Philip Meeker maintenance@houstonyachtclub.com with their boat dimensions and proof of insurance in order to be assigned a slip.
