Game Night – More the two dozen members and guests took over the Members Room for an evening of  Rummikub, the hybrid Gin Rummy/Dominos tile game.  Commodore Sean hosted the event and WYC added Sundance Grill II appetizers. It’s been many months since we had a game night – this one is sure to be repeated.

Birthday Bash: The glittering gowns present at the Sundance II Grill were out shone only by sparkling eyes and smiles as Waterford Yacht Club celebrated its 23rd anniversary with a Great Gatsby themed Birthday Bash.  Food, dancing, and friendships, both new and old, brought the 1920’s styled evening to life.  Elegance filled the room as a DJ played a wide variety of music which drew glamorous couples to the dance floor.  Later Karaoke stars displayed their talents, and a raucous chorus line of zesty gals took over the floor.

A delicious dinner was enjoyed as Buffalo Bayou Partnership manager Robby Robinson described the bayou debris cleanup efforts of the organization.  Vice Commodore Daven conducted a 50/50 raffle and after Commodore Sean’s generous donation of his winnings the charity received a contribution of $1240.

Social Director Pilar made sure the boisterous evening was complete with glamorous décor and stylized deserts with edible images of past WYC events.  Many thanks to Daniel’s (Optima Marine) special donation to help with the dance floor expense.

On the Horizon

Happy Hour (Friday October 14 6:30-9;00) Michelle and Michael Gordon will open-up their Dickinson Bayou residence to the membership.  Look to your Evite for their address and fixin ideas to bring and share.  Let’s be on our good behavior and leave their dock and home in good condition.

Railean Distillery Pirate Party (Saturday October 22 6:00pm – 9:00) This is the night for your inner brigand to party.  Bring your swagger as we board the party room at the Railean Distillery, have some appetizer plates and a Halloween pirate garb contest.  Remember to bring your Railean tankard and save a doubloon or two on your beverage purchase (arrgh).

Chilli Cookoff (Saturday November 12 6:30pm -9:00) Marina temperatures are cooling off, but we’ll keep it hot with a chili cookoff featuring bean, no-bean, spicy, mild, and even exotic chilis.  Bring a pot of homemade chili or a side dish to share with members.  In the event of bad weather we’ll move into the Icehouse.  Check your invites for more information.

Redfish Raft-Up (Saturday November 19) Fleet Captain Russell is encouraging WYC boaters to cruise to Redfish Island for a meal, campfire, smores and overnight anchorage. Plan to arrive at Redfish in the late morning anchor or raft-up and if needed, hail your island uber service on VHF 68.  The club will provide an entre and a Dutch oven cooking demonstration; please bring a side dish, lawn chair, and if you have one, a dinghy.  Note: should the weather turn against we’ll make Saturday December 3rd a backup date.
