Happy Hour Sep. 4th – About a dozen members stopped-by to visit and enjoy tasty snacks provided by the membershhip and hosted by Social Director Monique Henson.
Bloody Mary & Mimosa Sunday Sep. 6th – Another great social gathering at Pavilion B. Almost thirty people prepared adult beverages and loaded the drinks with enough extras to call it breakfast. Social Director Monique Henson hosted the event and was so creative with the fixings.
Fiberglass and Gel Coat Repair Clinic Sep. 19th – Our Rear Commodore Daniel Knierian conducted this unique hands on event. Participants mixed and applied gel coat and epoxy fillers onto a junk yard jet ski. We also observed his repair of a large impact hole with fiberglass and epoxy. Daniel displayed and described the many chemicals and tools needed for the repairs. It was surprising how how many grades of sandpaper are needed; 150 for prep to 1500 for a smooth shiny finish. WYC handed out gel coat sprayers to the attendees.
Birthday Bash & Charity Event Sep. 26th – WYC finally came of age as we celebrated its 21st birthday. Almost 40 members gathered at the Sundance Grill II for a pirate theme party. There was plenty of food and drink and pirate games of skill and chance. Michelle Weidner and Dale Henson won the costume contest $25 Sundance gift cards. Team Bill and Elfie won the pirate trivia game and got to Captain Morgan back to their boat. There were many $15 Sundance gift card door prizes, and winners of the pirate ‘walk the plank’, and nerf pistol shooting gallery; everyone received a customized WYC canvas bag. WYC thanks Treasurer Vickie Voorhies for hosting the party.
The evening was also WYC’s annual charity fundraiser. The really big winner of the night was the Sea Scout Sea Star Base in Galveston. Suzie Hanks described the many activities of the base and gratefully accepted $1420 donated by the membership via the 50/50 raffle.

On the Horizon for October
Happy Hour: Friday Oct. 2nd 6:30 Pavilion B – Stop by and share a BYOB beverage, appetizer and a membership mingle. Social distancing to be observed.
Chili Cook Off Oct. 17th – No sail is needed in this competition. Members can bring their favorite secret ingredient chili, or a side dish to be enjoyed (and voted upon) by all. In truth, everyone is a winner as we all enjoy the mild to spicy, bean or no bean, and exotic chilies. Prizes will be awarded to cooks with the most votes. Look for the upcoming Evite.
Redfish Raft-up Nov. 7th – 8th – WYC is planning to return to Redfish Island in November. Make your plans to depart WHM and arrive at Redfish Island in the late morning and anchor or raft-up for at least the afternoon. If conditions are right several boats will remain on anchor and stay the night.
Island activities should include a pot luck cookout, an all day happy hour, and a bonfire. WYC will provide the campfire, hot dogs, buns, condiments and a cooler. Volunteer side dishes, beverages, beach chairs plus Uber dinghies and a host volunteer to help are needed, contact Daven Voorhies at commordore@waterfordyc.com if you can assist.
In case of bad weather the Saturday event will be rescheduled. An Evite and more details will be posted as the date approaches
