October Events

Happy Hour Oct. 2nd – Almost a dozen members stopped by Pavilion B to visit and enjoy snacks provided by all.

Chili Cookoff Oct. 17th – Our annual chili fest included several delicious chilis and side dishes.  Long-time member Ellen Van London hosted the event, and Kelly Railean provided the great prizes which naturally included a bottle of ‘cooking’ rum.  Winners included Chet and Laurie Jachimiec plus Toni and Gary Hanson.  Ellen was the only one brave enough to make an exotic chili.

New Members – Please welcome new members Jami and Eric Nordquist on the SV Oleta at pier 7, slip 26:

On The Horizon

Happy Hour Nov. 6th – Stop by Pavilion B and enjoy the company of other members, while maintaining an appropriate social distance.  Member Michelle Weidner has volunteered to host the event this month.

Redfish Raft-up Nov. 7th – 8th – Power and sail boaters can gather at our local anchorage and share the afternoon on the island (weather permitting).  Uber dinghy volunteers are still needed to supplement those already helping.  A luncheon entre is provided and members just need to bring a side dish.  Please respond to the evite so the meal size can be estimated.  Try to stay the night on your own anchor or a member’s anchor.

Desert Contest & Christmas Lights Parade Dec 11th & 12th – WYC’s last event of the year will be sweet.  Prepare a desert to share with members and then we’ll stroll along the promenade and view the brightly decorated boats.  On Saturday Dec. 12th the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Christmas Light Parade.  If you decorated your boat register to participate at https://www.clearlakearea.com/events/annual-events/christmas-boat-parade/ .  Also you can avoid the Boardwalk crowds and watch the parade while on anchor in the lake.

Peanut Regatta of Waterford 2021 – The 2020 season of Rafael Brom’s popular and friendly sailboat regatta is coming to a close.  Now is a good time to prepare for the 2021 season.  Contact Rafael at  marianland@earthlink.net for his regatta specifics.

2021 Volunteers – Boost your WYC participation to the next level.  Your racing, social planning, technical or other boating skills and interests are sure to benefit the general membership. It’s been a difficult year, not all of the desired events happened.  Volunteer to be a WYC officer or host a club event and make sure it happens.  Please contact a 2020 board member or send an email to commodore@waterfordyc.com to volunteer.

WYC Business Meeting Jan 16thPlease attend our annual business meeting (at Sundance Grill II) and vote to install the 2021 officers.  This is the perfect time to mention the future events you’d like the club to sponsor.

Commodore Ball Jan 16th – Save the date for the big event.  We’ll celebrate the accomplishments of 2020 board of directors and recognize the 2021 board.
