Redfish Island Raft-up

WYC finally made it back to Redfish, and it was worth the wait. Eight boats with a crew of 19 dropped anchor and enjoyed the day in the shelter of the island.  Peter Larabee, WYC 2018 Yachtsman, provided the uber Whaler rides for most of us to and from the island so we could enjoy a perfect picnic. Sarah and John Winston also lent transportation support. Once on the island we had a campfire for roasting hot dogs and two tables full of side dishes. Simone Gordon, WYCs fleet captain organized the event, and also sponsored the desert and bean bag toss contests. Congrats to Elfie Boersma for the tasty desert and Bill Adams accurate throws. The two winners are pictured nearby wearing their prizes.

Later in the afternoon, or near sundown members returned to their boats. Some hoisted anchor and sailed back to Waterford while four spent a peaceful night and morning on the hook (families Mountain, Gordon, Voorhies, Knierien & Diehl). It was a very successful event that all enjoyed.

New Members – Two

Bill & Shelly Kessinger with the power boat Holokai are on pier eight. Be sure to say hello should you see them about the marina.

Elizabeth & James Sterling are on board the sailboat Long Bow. They just left pier eight for Mexico and when they return next year we’ll have to hear all about the trip.

On The Horizon

December Activities

The highlights for the month include the holiday desert contest on Friday December 13. Depending on the weather we’ll gather in Pavilion B or the Icehouse. Afterwards we’ll take a walk along the WHM promenade and piers to vote on the prettiest boat decorations.

The next night, Saturday December 14, is another WYC favorite – the Clear Lake Christmas Boat Lane Parade. If not in the parade, try and anchor on the north side of the Clear Lake channel near the approach to Lakewood Yacht Club before dusk.

Also be on the lookout for your January Commodore Ball invitation.

Volunteers

It takes people with spirit to make WYC operate. Volunteers are needed for the Fleet Captain, Social Director, Webmaster and Director at large positions. Don’t be concerned about trying something new or the time commitment. Each position has plenty of backup and previous directors to guide you through the responsibilities.  Contact Vickie Voorhies at Treasurer@Waterfordyc.com if intere
