January 2019

The 2018 Peanut Race

The winners were acknowledged at the Commodore’s ball this month.  In some ways it’s a really big sailboat race.  It takes a whole year to complete, longer than any of the around the races.  Though friendly the competition is fierce and one racer better not fowl another. First, second and third place steering wheel trophies went to Peter Larabee, Rafael Broom and Greg Green.  Finishing fourth and fifth were Doug Catenaci and John Scherer.  The smaller Mustard Seed Race winners were also acknowledged with whimsical trophies of, what else, Grey Poupon.  Many thanks to Fleet Captain Rafael Broom for his organization of the events, look for him on the Bay most any Saturday afternoon.

Treasurer Vickie provided the financial report, which is available for further distribution upon request.  New commodore Chet’s first act of leadership was to request input from the membership regarding suggestions for 2019 activities.

Annual Commodores Ball

The Commodore’s Ball repeated at the nearby Opus Restaurant.  Fifty members and guests enjoyed an evening of fine dining, and comradery.  Members shared boating stories of high winds, no wind, near misses and joked about being stuck in the mud at low tide.

Commodore Mike presented the racing awards, plus WYC’s most significant award ‘Yachtsman of the Year’ to Peter Larabee.  The festivities also included a D-J with hours of dancing music, plus an after party, which many members and guests enjoyed.

2019 Calendar

There are plenty of open weekends to accept and schedule your idea for a club event.  Bring your suggestions to the next board meeting Saturday Feb 9th 9:00 – 11:00am.

Membership Renewal

It’s that time again, please go to the WYC Membership Link and renew your membership for 2019.  It’s only $125, way less than the monthly slip rental, yet good for a whole year of engaging social and water activities.
