March 2022

Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – March 2022

Recent Events

Happy Hour – Just a few members attended the monthly happy hour.  Cold temperatures and high winds helped keep participation low.

Raspberry Pi Computer – Sean McDaniel gave a dozen members and guests a demonstration of the palm sized computer application with boat electronics.  The little device easily connects to opensource NOAA maps, GPS plotters, display screens, software and your onboard 12v power source.

Wine and Cheese Tasting – Our annual event was once again a big success.  Members Tina Pantoja and past Commodore Mike Pantoja presented a huge charcuterie table and large selection of wines and liquors.  Many thanks to Tina for her exhaustive preparations.  Treasurer Vickie Voorhies conducted the free raffle which highlighted member Sergei Sharonov’s generous donation of Ukrainian vodka.  More than 60 people gave a shout of support for Ukraine each time one of the 12 bottles was won.

New Members – WYC grew by three memberships this month as Roy Collison and Ofelia Marque, Ray and Cindy Eldridge on the p/v Athena, and Darby Mair of the Sundance Grill II joined.  Be sure to greet them soon, especially Darby on April 9th (see below).

On the Horizon

Happy Hour (Friday April 8th 6:00pm) – WYC will take over a long table at T-Bone Tom’s for an evening of music, dancing, food and boating news.  Look for a future Evite to help decide on the needed table size.

Celebration of Life (Saturday April 9th 2:00pm) – Darby Mair will host a remembrance of our long-time friend Hans Mair at the Sundance Grill II.  At 4:00 guests can share fond memories of Hans with the assembled family and well-wishers.

Red Fish Island Clam Bake (Fri-Sat April 23-24) – Fleet Director Russell Parrish will get us out to Red Fish Island for a clam steaming.  If possible, plan to stay on anchor for the night.  Volunteer help with food items and dinghy service to and from the island is always appreciated.

Arabian Nights Dance Class (Sat May 7 6:00pm) – Members don’t have enough deck space for square dancing, but we do have space for belly dancing.  Attend this special dance class and learn the basics of this classic dance form.  Please respond to any future Evite so plans can be made accordingly.

Volunteers – WYC’s 2022 agenda is happening and your support with social, education or fleet events is needed.  Contact Commodore Chris Lamson or Vice Commodore Daven Voorhies (vicecommodore@waterfordyc.com) regarding participation.
