Recent Events

Pizza Night Friday Feb. 27 – Ten pizzas were made for us by Brick Oven Pizza in League city.  None of the 32 in attendance left the Pavilion B hungry. Under Social Director Elfie Boersma  watchful eye we also prepared and grilled desert “pizza” by placing sweet toppings (bananas, berries, cinnamon, marshmallows etc.) on pastry and cooking till done just right.

Happy Hour Friday Mar. 12 – Almost 20 boaters stopped by Pavilion B for our monthly social, beverage and snacks event.  Members appear to feel better about social activities so the participation increase was noticeable.

Hull Inspection and Maintenance Saturday Mar. 13 – Over at Seabrook Shipyard our Education Director, Daniel Knierien, showed 19 members what to do when we put our boats on the hard.  We examined the hull of his 40’ Hunter for fiberglass gel coat blisters, and wear on through hull fittings.  Of special interest was the preparation and use of epoxy paint to seal the gelcoat before application of your anti-fouling paint.

New Members – Three new memberships signed-up this month: Jim Barrows with SV Far Horizon on pier 11, Ed and Cindy Lowrie with SV Wave Dancer on pier 7 plus Steve Nolin and Kimberly Johnson with SV Texas Star on pier 9.  They are anxious to participate so as you walk about the marina stop by their boats and welcome them with an “Ahoy WYC member”.

On the Horizon

Poker Run for Dinghies and Pedestrians 11:00am Saturday Mar. 27 – WYC will sponsor a Poker Run card game for both dinghies and pedestrians.  It’s easy to play – At Pavilion B start with your $5.00 ante and receive your Waterford and Watergate clues.  Follow the clues to the five dock dealers and receive your cards.  Then back to the start for the five card draw showdown, prizes, and hamburger lunch.  Signup with your Evite or email commodore@waterfordyc.com.  The best hands and fastest card collection are winners! Will you play?

Happy Hour 6:30pm Friday Apr. 9 – Let’s meet at Pavilion B for our monthly social hour.  Bring an appetizers or beverage to share along with whatever is new in your onshore and marina life.

Wine and Cheese Tasting 5:00pm Saturday Apr. 24 – Tina Pantoja and past commodore Mike Pantoja are once again hosting our annual wine and cheese party.  This year they, along with other wine distributors will provide numerous bottles of wine for us to taste plus cheeses for delicious pairings.  Try to bring a likely club member along to Pavilion B so they may get better acquainted with the membership.

2021 Volunteers – Boost your WYC participation to the next level.  Your racing, social planning, technical or other boating skills and interests are sure to benefit the general membership. Volunteer to support a club event.  Please contact a 2021 board member or send an email to commodore@waterfordyc.com with your suggestion.
