March 2020

Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – March 2020

March Events

Happy Hour – Social Director Monique Henson put the word out and on Friday March 6 club members gathered to enjoy another evening of conversation and appetizers.

Wine and Cheese New Members Party – This years’ rendition of the Wine and Cheese party was most enjoyable.  The Pavilion tables were first covered with butcher paper, then mounds of cheese, dried fruit, stacks of high carb crackers, bread, sliced meats and sweets. The central table was reserved for the more than a dozen bottes of everyone’s favorite wines. Members voted for their favorite which turned out to be a Malbec.  On another table WYC’s fiercest competitors went head to head in our annual Rain Gutter Regatta. Many thanks to our hosts, past Commodore Mike and Tina Pantoja, who were fantastic once again.  Congrats to Scott and Jenifer Stillman for first place.

Membership – Our membership enrollment stayed level in March. Thank you to those who paid their 2020 dues (finally).

Knots and Rope Splicing – Tying knots are simple compared to splicing a loop into braided rope. As the pictures show it takes many hands to accomplish. Rear Commodore Daniel Knierian did a great job teaching this yatchmans art to WYC members. It turns out that pounding the rope with a mallet is necessary to finish the loop, and sooo… emotionally satisfying.

Next in April

The many plans for April, a Happy Hour, the U.S. Power Squadron boat check and the Freeport cruise were put on hold. The Corona Virus social distancing, as well as the weather, changed everything.
