Recent Events
New Commodore – The Board of Directors elected Sean McDaniel as the new Commodore to fill the vacancy created by Chris Lamson’s resignation. Sean has been very active in club events and previously served as Director-at-Large. The membership welcomes Sean as Commodore and look forward to his club leadership.
Former Commodore Chris has sold his boat and will spend more time in California – thank you Chris for your service.
WYC Freeport Cruise, Poker Run & Regatta – Fleet Captain Russell Parish lead the way to Freeport along with 4 other boats. It was great three-day event Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all days with good weather. All the boats avoided the aftermath of the Freeport LNG plant explosion, almost all stayed in deep water, and lucky Sean McDaniel won the poker run card game.
Happy Hour The HH in Pavilion B made the Saturday night a WYC double header. A small gathering of members enjoyed the sultry evening, pizza and cold beverages.
On the Horizon
Pancake Breakfast (Sunday June 26th 9:00am – 11:00am) WYC is serving up the best breakfast you’ve ever had at the marina. Stop by Pavilion B for a stack of warm, fluffy pancakes, cold mimosas and the latest WHM news.
July 4th Celebration WHM is sponsoring an afternoon Sundance II poolside hot dogs and hamburgers party and the Kemah Boardwalk will conduct it’s on the water fireworks display that evening. If in town, be sure to get in on at least one of these great events.
Happy Hour (Friday July 8 6:00pm – 9:00 Pavilion B) – There’s lots going on in the marina and Galveston Bay. Stop by our monthly social gathering for the some chit-chat.
Port of Houston Tour Cruise (Tuesday July 12, 5:30-7:30) WYC has signed-up for the free tour cruise on board the Port’s m/v Sam Houston. Past Commodore and POH captain Robert Donley has also arranged for a special speaker to outline the Port Project 11 expansion. Attendance is limited to 55 so respond to the recent Evite with your “YES” and a list of guests. Arrive at the Port of Houston 7300 Clinton Drive, Gate #8, Houston TX at 5:30pm for check-in.
Shell Beach Raft-up – Houston Yacht Club (Saturday July 16 – 17) WYC members will sail or motorboat to this anchorage near HYC. Stay for the afternoon or overnight as we boat hop and share the day and meals together. Fleet captain Russell Parish will have more details in the near future.
Margarita Extravaganza – (Saturday July 23 6:00pm – 9:00 Pavilion B) This will be a competition where everyone is a winner. Bring your blender and ingredients for your favorite frozen or on the rocks margarita. Hint: 100% agave tequila always scores high. WYC will supply Mexican theme side dishes and prizes.
Dingy Run (Saturday August 6) – Get your dingy ready! Refill the gas tank or charge the battery and we’ll find a lakeside eatery to visit. Motorists are welcomed too.
Bloody Maries – . (Sunday August 14 9:00am – 11:00 Pavilion B) A refreshing red beverage with all the trimmings is a good way to get your minimum daily allowance of vegetables. Join other members as we participate in this popular WYC event.
