Under the Keel: Scuttlebutt and Rumor

    Redfish Raft Up

A group of adventurous mariners set sail for Redfish Island on Saturday, May 19. High winds did not stop those lured by the promise of hot dogs, booze, and camaraderie. The winds made anchoring a challenge for those without a danforth anchor on board. The WYC fleet of Uber Dingys was there to make sure that all who survived the rigors of anchoring could join the festivities on the beach. The party went on thanks to Captain Steve Berry and Captain Wayne Wilcox who tirelessly shuttled the crews around. Thanks to the cooks for the hot dogs and sides that were a welcome reward after a busy afternoon. The bonfire burned into the evening for the members who stayed and enjoyed the anchorage overnight.

Pinewood Derby Regatta

The 3rd annual Pinewood Derby Regatta was held Saturday, June 9th. Four boats were assembled and raced by four captains with differing views on proper yacht construction. The fleet assembled for a race across the fairway and we are happy to report that all boats did eventually cross the finish line. Multiple heats were held and the vessel designed by Bill Adams won every heat. Bill, also, had the only boat that sailed in a relatively straight line. Our Commodore, Mike Pantoja, placed second after making some adjustments to his design. Prizes were awarded for the first two finishers and everyone brought their boats home to work on for next year. Michelle Weidner provided a delicious taco feast for everyone to enjoy while the boats were being assembled under the Pavillion.
