July Activities

Bloody Mary/Mimosa Sunday

The social committee doubled the beverage offering at our popular Sunday gathering and drew more than 30 members to the casual event.  Many thanks to Sarah Winston, Amy Holdaway, and Vickie Voorhies for making it happen.

July 4th Celebration

Here’s a Nice Job shout-out to all who dropped anchor and enjoyed the Boardwalk fireworks during July.

Highway 146 Construction

The lane closure and one way boat traffic has begun.  The first half-hour in-bound, second half-hour out-bound traffic pattern seems to work, but jam-ups can happen.  If you leave the slip at 15 minutes after the hour you should get though non-stop.

Booty Bag

So far you could have earned nine pieces of booty, and there’s still more to collect this year.  At year-end the member with the most booty will receive a real treasure of $50 cash.  See below for the next one.

Welcome New Members

WYC continues to grow the boating experience with the addition of two memberships.  Say hello to:

Jeffrey Mountain and his boat the Third Degree on pier 17.

John Klumb and Sharon Guzzino on the Amice del Mare on pier 14.

On the Horizon

Dive-In Pool Party – Saturday August 10

Join the club’s evening event (7:00 -10:00) and cool-off in the marina pool while enjoying a movie.  Show time is around dusk and features the initial Pirates of the Caribbean movie from 2003.  While there be sure to ask for your next piece of booty.

Big Plans in September

WYC’s Birthday Bash on Saturday Sept. 7th will be held at the Sundance Grill II.  We’ll conduct a 50/50 raffle/fund raiser for the Galveston Bay Foundation.  Later in the month on Saturday Sept 28 the club will gather at Redfish Island for its annual raft-up.  Weather conditions forced the postponement back in April so let’s hope the weather is calmer and cooler.  The annual regatta is delayed to a later date (yet to be determined). Lakewood Yacht Club gets to keep our wheel trophy for another season.
