Annual Business Meeting – Members in attendance plus proxy ballots voted unanimously to elect the WYC board slate of 2023 officers and approve the $25 dues increase from $125 to $150. The returning board officers welcome new officers Howard Eisemann, Steve Nolin and Jeff Mountain and give a special thanks to Michelle Weider for her volunteerism in taking on the Social Director position. Prominent discussion included ideas for WYC self-promotion to draw in more members, plus suggestions for more social events with live music and more fleet events. The 2023 WYC board is as follows:
Commodore Daven Voorhies
Vice Commodore Laurie Jachimiec
Rear Commodore -Education Howard Eisemann
Fleet Captain Steve Nolin
Social Director Michelle Weider
Treasurer Vickie Voorhies
Secretary Chet Jachimiec
Director Tech Evan Bauman
Director at Large Jeff Mountain
Event Planning – The 2023 program is taking shape. Led by directors Michelle Weidner, Steve Nolin, and Howard Eisemann other members have also volunteered. Many thanks to Simone Gordon who will organize club happy hours. By volunteering you too can be a WYC Yachtie; but sorry Simone already got the red Yachtie hat.
Annual Commodore’s Ball – Almost three dozen members and guests attended the dinner dance at the Opus Bistro. It was a night full of dining, dancing and testimonials from prior club Commodores; Russ Records mentioned that in previous years individual events were linked together with an annual theme such as treasure or racing. The Anchors Aweigh party theme may serve as just such a theme. In appreciation of 2022 club service, the former board received vests with custom embroidery by Steve Nolin. Past Commodore Robert Donley, who provided insight into past club organization, was honored as the 2022 Yachtsman of the year and also received a vest.
Marine Insurance – Local marine insurance agent Dennis Onstott spoke to more than a dozen members about boat insurance, especially the critical policy exclusions. As much as we may pay for coverage, at least it is readily available in Houston, unlike Florida where many carriers have stopped writing new policies.
