Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – February 2020

February Events

Our first Happy Hour of the year had about 20 members in attendance. You started the year by generously bringing snacks and beverages to share. Hopefully you’ll you will continue to do so through the year.

WYC couldn’t wait on the Houston Rodeo for its BBQ so we had our own BBQ Party on Saturday February 22nd.   At least 40 members were in attendance and enjoyed the smoked brisket from local Boots BBQ. There were also two tables full of bean, and sides dishes members brought to share. Many thanks to Social Director Monique Henson for organizing the party. You can get more of Boots BBQ from facebook: BootsBBQandCatering/.

GBCA’s 2020 Icicle Race Series concluded with the 5th race in February. Many WYC members participated; some of whom were very competitive.  Congratulations to all who participated, especially:

Shorthanded Class

1st place Doug Cantenaci (Point of Beginning)

2nd place Peter Larabee (Dram Bouy)

Non-Spinnaker Class

Peter Van Osteen ($phion)

Greg Green (Alive and Free)

The annual Yachty Gras boat parade along the Kemah Boardwalk was on February 15 included more than 40 brightly decorated boats complete with lively krewes. The krewes entertained a crowd of thousands along the Kemah Boardwalk and kept them yelling for more beads. Several boats from Waterford participated.

Also try to bring a friend from the marina to enjoy the evening with us and hopefully be so impressed that they want to join the yacht club too.
