Waterford Yacht Club Newsletter – August 2019

August Activities

Dive-In Pool Party

Twenty-five members enjoyed a poolside evening of friendship, food, and our favorite pirate film -Pirates of the Caribbean.  WYC looked good to the many other marina boaters who also enjoyed the Sundance Grill poolside service.  It was a perfect way to end a day of sailing, motoring and boat maintaining.  Many thanks to our social director, Sarah Winston, who made the arrangements and congrats to door prize winner Elaine Cowart.

August Happy Hour

Members braved the warm and humid evening and gathered in Pavilion B for our monthly social event.

New Members

We gained two new memberships.  Please welcome Mark and Joy Andrews and Courtney Tucker.

On The Horizon

Happy Hour – Friday Sept 6th

Plan on stopping by Pavilion B to meet-up with the WYC members and get the latest boating news.  Bring enough of your favorite snacks and beverages to share.

Birthday Bash – Saturday Sept. 7th

The WYC birthday celebration will be held at the Sundance Grill II.  The WYC Bling Babes are hosting the event and have selected famous author and boater Ernest Hemingway as the theme.  There will be a 50/50 raffle/fund raiser for that great local charity Galveston Bay Foundation; so bring some paper with a famous American portrait on it. Event tickets are $10 for members and $25 for guests and may be purchased at the Eventbrite website. This URL will get you to the ticket purchase https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wyc-birthday-bash-tickets-66824486839

Circumnavigation Education Event – Saturday Sept 14

Join this special opportunity to hear from and visit with Ruben Koene as he speaks about his recent single-handed world circumnavigation by sailboat.  Ruben’s adventure took more than a year to complete as he visited many ports-of-call with weeks of blue water sailing between each stop. We’ll meet at the Sundance Grill 9:00 am.

Pirate Party – Friday October 4th

WYC’s  regular happy hour moves to the Railean Distillery this month.   Halloween is near, so put on your eye patch, bring your swagger and enjoy some lively company and spirits at the Buccaneers Bar.  The fiercest pirates will receive a prize.  The Railean address is:

341 5th Street
San Leon, Texas 77539.

Arrrrrgh!

More Events Later . . . .

The club still has plans for the Redfish Island annual raft-up.  Weather conditions forced the postponement back in April so let’s hope the weather is calmer and cooler.  More information and a date confirmation will be released soon.  The annual regatta is delayed to a later date (yet to be determined).
