2011 Annual Meeting
By Lyn Dreisbach
Saturday
January 8th WYC kicked off 2011 with the Annual Members' Meeting at Sundance
Grille.
Commodore Larry Wiper brought the meeting to order welcoming
all New Members, asking them to stand & be recognized. The
business portion of the meeting was held before going on to the year-end summary
of club activities.
A personalized
WYC Jacket will be presented to Hans Mair of Sundance Grille, in recognition of
his wonderful support all year. An appreciative round of applause was given in
recognition of Hans and his staff.
Many fun social gatherings took place inside Sundance as well as catered events
outside during the year. WYC club members enjoyed an expanded menu & special
pricings throughout the year. Henry Milam was recognized and will be presented
with a gift for his work on the WYC website.
Commodore
Larry and his Board gave a brief overview of some of the accomplishments for
2010.
- Growth from 119
to 150 memberships,
thanks in large part to Vice
Commodore Lorraine Grubbs & Director Richard Bruce’s
untiring efforts in promoting the club.
- 2010
was a good financial year as
meticulously maintained financials were reported by Treasurer Jennifer Stillman.
The growth of the club made it easier to offer all members more events and
opportunities.
- Generous fund raising donation to Lighthouse Charities, acknowledging Director Richard & Vice Commodore Lorraine and others who made the Silent Auction a huge success!
-Multiple boating adventures to Offatts Bayou, Galveston, Freeport, Port Aransas, Redfish and Allen’s Landing by Fleet Captain Gary Garnett. Raftups and dinghy rallies rounded out the activities for the boating year. The Annual Unruly Regatta and Harvest Moon Regatta also had several sailing members representing WYC.
- Growth in the Ships Store, with increased available logo merchandise and merchandise giveaways at events by Director Lyn Dreisbach
- Successful expansion of numerous Social Events we had throughout the year skillfully put together by our energetic Social Director Dawn Jackson, too numerous to mention!
- Growing
& Popular Educational Programs organized
by Rear Commodore Scott & Treasurer Jennifer Stillman. Some were presented by
our own club members: Knot Tying, Celestial Navigation, Insurance and more.
- Recognized Secretary John
Davis for his two years of
service on the Board keeping us on task and hs work on numerous events &
committees.
- Director Karen Townsend for
contributions on all numerous events & committees, and for her generous artistic
donations at the Birthday Bash Silent Auction.
- Addition of a WYC Newsletter created by Lorraine Grubbs now being sent marina wide promoting both WYC and Waterford Marina activities.
Highlighted events were the many boating trips, Friday Night Socials, Chili & Gumbo Cook-Offs, New Member Wine & Cheese, Cardboat Boat Regretta, and a wonderful Commodore’s Ball. The poolside Birthday Bash & Silent Auction of over 100 gift baskets raised a nice monetary donation to a well-deserving group, Lighthouse Charities. Members were encouraged to support the local businesses, especially those donating to our auction and other events where donated prizes were given out. 2010 Board members and their spouses were thanked for all their hard work and the tremendous volunteer support making 2010 a very successful boating and social year!
Following the past year’s review, Commodore Larry once again thanked everyone
for their active participation in the benefit of the club. Elections were held
