Cruise to Harbor Walk

We had 10 slips reserved for the Memorial Day weekend cruise to Harborwalk.  5 out of the ten boats made the trip. Bad weather on Saturday combined with maintenance problems and work conflicts kept the remaining boats at Waterford.

The first to leave on Friday morning was Tom and Jan Taggart on S/V “Better Wet” a 30’ Ericson, Julie and Colin Gibb followed in “Julie Ann II” the 33’ Egg Harbor motor vessel that is named after our past 2006 commodore Julia Gibb. About 10:15 AM “Call me the Breeze” a Hunter 340 with Dan and Freddie Fuller aboard pushed off and with a quick stop to fuel up at 3 Amigos we were off.

With the wind clocking about 20 to 25 knots right on our noises and a pretty good chop on the bay, the normal 5 hour trip turned into about 7 hours from slip to slip. Needless to say is was a wet and salty ride for all, except for “Élan” Larry and Linda Wiper’s 42’ Grand Banks that made the trip in about 3 hours, and the occupants were totally dry upon arrival. I guess “Better Wet” and “Call me the Breeze” really lived up their name sakes! Phil and Rosa Andrus had already made a short hop from Offitt’s on their 42’ Nordic Tug “Ma Rosa”. They kept dry too! Later that evening Don Finley and Elaine Maspero sailed in before night fall

Around 6 o’clock Friday evening we had happy hour with finger food and cocktails. We pretty much sat around and discussed what the weather would hold for the next day or so.

On Saturday the wind seemed to increase around the new pool/bar area. The marina had provided a good band to play poolside. We all were really enjoying the music and boat drinks when the rain hit. We just moved the pool party into “Elan” until the rain passed. I must say if you haven’t seen the new pool and bar, it’s worth another sail down. You might just think you are down on the Mexican Riviera.

The food and service at the Harborwalk Yacht Club restaurant was excellent! Boy! They know how to do service! We will definitely be making future trips back. The staff at the marina was also very friendly and helpful throughout the entire weekend.

The sail back on Sunday was wonderful!! A light breeze out of the south and calm seas made you forget about the rough ride down a couple of days before.
