Vice-Commodore's
Cruise to Bayland Marina
November 10, 2007
.
Waterford Yacht Club held their annual “Vice-Commodore’s Cruise” on November 10, 2007. Approximately 40 members & guests came out to beautiful Bayland Marina (located in Baytown) to show their support for our Vice-Commodore; Terry Swonke. Unfortunately, the day started a bit grey & drizzly and due to that fact, only one boat decided to brave the elements and sail over to Baytown. Thanks so much to the Taggarts for sailing over! The rest of the group drove over and by early afternoon, the skies had parted and we had a sunny, warm & breezy day. The main event for this cruise was the “Chowder-Off” and we had a record 11 Chowders entered in the contest. The judges (Travis Ewing, Terry Swonke, and Ricardo Gomez) had their work cut out for them as they sampled all the Chowder recipes and came up with a three-way tie for the “best” entry. The winners of the 2007 “Chowder-Off” were: Rus Records, Debbie Swonke & Kelly Railean, and they will retain bragging rights until next year! We also awarded prizes to the “People’s Choice” Chowders and those winners were Rus Records (he had lots of lobster in his chowder) and the foursome of Linda & Larry Wiper and Chris & Tammy Gore. Let’s give a big “thank you” to Dan & Freddie for bringing their awesome sound system, Terry Swonke for helping with the set-up and tear-down, Susie Andrus for helping throughout the night, and everybody for helping us pick up and load the cars. Thanks also to the folks over at Bayland Marina, it is a great destination for a weekend cruise and we even got to meet many of the live-aboards who came down to join the party.
