Wine & Cheese Social – January
21, 2006
We had a great turnout for the Wine & Cheese Social in spite of the rotten
weather. Due to the on-and-off sprinkling, we were forced to bring the party
indoors

The blind wine tasting turned out to be a hit.

We had 20 red wine entries and 6 white wine entries. I think
we can strongly say that members of WYC prefer red wine with their cheese! There
were over 15 types of cheeses served, salami & sausages, fresh & dried fruits,
breads & crackers, nuts, and even chocolates for those with a sweet tooth. Kudos
to the Wine Judges: Rus Records, Kelly Railean, and Stephen Deitch. It was a
tough job but someone had to taste those 26 wines and evaluate them! The winning
white wine was a big, blue bottle of German Riesling, brought by Jim Davis (the
size and color of the bottle did not sway the judges in any way), and the red
wine that took the prize was a bottle of Ravenswood Cabernet Sauvignon from Bill
& Toni Turner. Everyone had a great time showing off the wine they brought, and
tasting all the other delicious wines. Thanks to all who attended and especially
to those of you who helped out with the set-up and clean-up (you know who you
are). See you at the Commodore’s Ball next month!
