The 2006 WYC Polynesian Dinghy Rally turned out to be quite an event! It was
a crazy day filled with rain, wind, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts, Hula
dancing, dogs, Coasties, a coconut-bra malfunction, pizza & wings, fruity
alcoholic beverages and much, much more! The dark skies and rains did not
discourage our members & guests – we had 10 dinghies participate, about 45
people at the post rally party, and even 2 dogs in a dinghy.
There were four destinations – Tonga (Seabrook Beach Club), The Cook Islands
(Outriggers), Fiji (the backyard of Dana & Elizabeth Oliver), and Bora Bora
(Boondoggle’s).
Bryan Kirkpatrick had a great time at Seabrook Beach Club. There were rubber
duckies to be found in the pool. Plucking ducks out of the pool sounds easy
enough, except for the fact that there were volleyball games going on in the
pool.
Matt & the Coast Guard held down the fort at Outriggers. In order to get
your "hula girl artifact", you had to put on a grass skirt & coconut bra and
dance around the bar. There are stories & pictures of our guests and members
hula dancing for the Coast Guard guys!
Dana & Elizabeth Oliver allowed us to turn their backyard into Fiji. Their
waterfront home is located in Wildwood. It was here that you had to ride the
inflatable turtle across the pool in order to get your prize.
The last stop and the location of the post rally party, was Boondoggles. We
had pizzas & assorted appetizers, cold drinks, and we learned something
about Polynesian dancing. Halimah entertained us with her Polynesian
dancing, and many of us joined her and learned some new moves. Mike & Susie
both really got into the dancing and they did a great job!
I just want to thank everyone who attended the event, and a special thanks
to Bryan Kirkpatrick, Matt Railean and Dana & Elizabeth Oliver. Thanks also
to Sandy Records for helping me out, and Karen & Alan Albrecht for helping
me set up at Boondoggle’s. A very big thanks from WYC to the folks at:
Boondoggle’s, Seabrook Beach Club, and Outriggers, thanks for putting up
with our crazy group all day!
