WYC Holds Second Annual Chili Cook-off; Drew and Stephanie Win! Despite high winds and cool temperatures, the 2nd annual Chili Cook-off was a big success. Five teams entered their special recipes and the club got to taste five really distinctive chilies. Drew and Stephanie took first place with their "D&D Chili". Russ Orr was 2nd with his "Nicodemus Chili", and Rus Records was third with "Deer Camp Chili". Judging was by JD Sellers of Waterford Restaurant and a "professional" chili judge, Jim Nelson. |

WYC Racers Dominate the Cruising Non-Spinnaker Class Racers from Waterford Yacht Club have become a formidable force on the race course. This year, 13 WYC boats completed the 153 mile race from Galveston to Port Aransas, with several boats turning in personal record times. Conditions were beautiful at the start, then became very heavy during the night. In the overall Cruising Non-Spinnaker Fleet, Gary Pollock (Ocean Spirits) placed 5th, Rus Records (Voyager) placed 7th, and Russ Orr (Cest le Vie) placed 8th, while turning in winning performances in their own classes. Mickey McHugh (Yaga) placed 12th and Ben Miller (Remedy) placed 14th in the Cruising Spinnaker Fleet. WYC Holds Charity Flea Market at Waterford and Contributes over $1300 to Bay Smart |

Bay Smart is a local organization that works for the preservation of Galveston Bay. "Emphasizing the Protection, Utilization, and Preservation of Galveston Bay for Present and Future Generations" |
|
The Board decided this year that we wanted to do a charity event and we settled on a Sailor's Flea Market. We know that everyone had "unique" boating items ( or any other kind) that, while they are not using, would be just the thing for some other member's special use. This event was expertly organized by Lois Pollock aided by Chuck Tresidder and Sandy Records, and was held at the Waterford parking lot. |

Sept 13th - The Harbor House on the Strand in Galveston is a great weekend destination, and the club goes there every year. This year we packed the harbor with nine boats. The big excitement was when a huge wooden beam floated in on the tide, and the Coast Guard came to retrieve it. |

Moody Garden Cruise A Success? Aug 23 - Well, at least, this fall we all got there. In March, a combination of a broken RR bridge and boisterous winds kept most boats from actually getting to Moody Gardens. |

Waterford Yacht Club is Three Years Old and Doin' Great! May 4 - The 3rd Annual WYC Birthday Gala was attended by over 140 members and their guests who enjoyed great food, drinks, and the music of Southern Cross. When the weather threatened, we all moved inside Leslies' and made ourselves a dance floor. Over 25 local business sponsors contributed gifts for our raffle give-aways, for a total of over $2,000 in restaurant dinners, boat dress, equipment, and services. |

Dinghy Cruise Visits Waterfront Restaurants July 20th - To do something a little different, we decided that we would map out a course that would take us all over the Lake and into Kemah to collect poker cards at many of the waterfront restaurants in the area. Each crew got a different game card that had them navigate to a particular GPS coordinate, guess which restaurant that was, and go in and meet the manager to get a playing card. We all ended up at Lombardo's to see who won and enjoy great Italian hor's deurves. The winning crews was Dan and Freddie Fuller, Russ and Carol Orr, Chuck Tresidder, and John and Kay Griffin. Prizes were given for best and worst hand. The prizes were gift certificates to West Marine and Lombardo's. The special drawing was won by Rod and Soki Namen. The destinations include Waterford, Turtle Club, Boondoggles, Outrigger, Seabrook Beach Club, and Lombardo's.The 2002 Dinghy Poker Run was organized by Rus and Sandy Records. |

Cajun Shrimp Boil Hosted by Randy Williams May 4 - One of the really neat things about the Club is the way that individual members contribute their talents to the membership. As a final salute before he and Jackie Cherry take off to cruise Florida, Randy threw a Cajun Shrimp Boil for the Club, featuring boiled shrimp, corn, potatoes, and plenty of drinks. |

WYC Pushes through Heavy Fog to Get to the Party March 9 - While waiting impatiently for the Corps of Engineers to get finished with Red Fish Island, we decided to have a raft-up off the coastal community south of Kemah called Bacliff. Rus Records on Voyager led the way out through a heavy fog to establish the center boat, and then the 10 other member boats used him as a radar target as they made their way out of Kemah. Once we got out there, everyone rafted up, the fog lifted and the party began. |
